Volunteer with Alaria

Be part of a gentle, welcoming community rooted in nature

Spend time outdoors. Support children to grow. Be part of something meaningful.

At Alaria, our forest school sessions create spaces where children and young people can explore nature, build confidence and experience a sense of belonging.

Volunteers play an important role in helping these sessions run smoothly and safely. Whether you love being outdoors, enjoy working alongside children, or simply want to contribute to your local community, volunteering with Alaria can be a rewarding way to make a difference.

As a not-for-profit Community Interest Company, our work exists to serve children, families and the wider community, and volunteers are an important part of that shared effort.

What volunteering looks like

Volunteers may help with things like:

  • supporting children during forest school activities
  • helping prepare materials or set up activities
  • assisting with fire circle routines and snack preparation
  • helping children explore nature safely
  • supporting the welcoming atmosphere that makes sessions feel calm and inclusive

No two sessions are exactly the same, but volunteers are always part of a supportive team.

Who this might suit

Volunteering at Alaria can be a great fit for people who:

  • enjoy spending time outdoors in all seasons
  • feel comfortable around children and young people
  • are patient, kind and curious about learning
  • value nature, play and connection
  • may be exploring careers in education, youth work, psychology or therapy

You do not need to be an expert in Forest School or therapy. What matters most is warmth, reliability and a willingness to learn.

What volunteers gain

Many volunteers tell us they value:

  • time outdoors in a beautiful natural setting
  • the chance to support children in meaningful ways
  • learning about nature-based therapeutic approaches
  • developing confidence and experience working with children
  • being part of a friendly and supportive community

Practical information

  • Volunteers usually help during Forest School sessions.
  • Sessions take place outdoors in most weather conditions.
  • A PVG check is required for roles involving regular contact with children.
  • We will provide guidance and support to help you feel comfortable in the role.
